The U.S. Government's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) recently selected the National Transparent Optical Network Consortium (NTONC) to develop an advanced networking research testbed as part of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) SuperNet Program. The NTON Consortium membership consists of Nortel Networks, GST Telecom, Sprint Communications and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.
