Tao and Tai Chi Chi Kung
by Mantak Chia
The Healing Tao is a
practical system of self-development that enables the individual to complete
the harmonious evolution of the physical, mental and spiritual planes and
the achievement of spiritual independence.
Tai Chi Chuan
Tai Chi has long been recognized as an excellent
system of stress reduction and health maintenance. The slow meditative
movements of the Tai Chi form combined with deep tranquil breathing create
a sense of centered well-being that helps reduce stress, increase balance,
and relax body and mind.
Tai Chi is suitable for anyone regardless of age or physical
condition. The movements are relaxing and easy to do. Tai Chi can be practiced
anywhere, at any time. No special clothing or equipment are required.
Tai Chi is becoming increasingly popular in this country
and is for many people an important part of daily life, helping them to
stay calm and relaxed in the hectic pace of today's society. Daily practice
helps to keep both the body and mind clear and free flowing. For martial
artists Tai Chi is an excellent method for developing coordinated body
mechanics which lead to vastly increased speed and power.

Chi Kung
Chi Kung (also sometimes spelled Qi Gong) consists of
a vast and varied array of techniques. Many have specific health functions
while others are aimed at general health and well being. All have in common
the coordination of mind, body, breath, and the flow of internal energy
using small movements or postures similar to yoga, or larger movements
as in Tai Chi.
These exercise relax the entire body, increase flexibility,
loosen the joints and help reduce stress in daily life. The class also
works on movements that eliminate neck and shoulder tension and greatly
benefit the back and spine. This class helps Tai Chi students develop some
of the basic principles in the Tai Chi form. The class is also for people
who do not have time to invest in learning and practicing the Tai Chi form
but would like to gain some of the many benefits from this practice.
